Volunteers

Volunteering with us…

If you are an artist

It may be a great way to meet other artists showing at the gallery, trading “trade secrets”, where to show, how to market your work, and learn new techniques.  Helping to promote artists in our area is what we are all about.

If you are not an artist

What a great way to learn about art and all the mediums involved or about the history or the area — or both.  Some of the nicest folks that come into the gallery are the artists, very nice creative people.  When volunteering at the gallery you may be asked to help an artist bring in a new show, or check out the previous one.  It’s always exciting to see the coming and going of all the art.  When volunteering at the Log Cabin, you are giving people the opportunity to take a peak at days long gone but hopefully not forgotten.

For the curious

Thinking about becoming a volunteer at either the Log Cabin Museum or the Gallery, it’s a great way to spend one day a month.  You will become acquainted with the community and be able to help visitors who always have questions like, who, what, where, and when.  It’s very interesting to learn about our unique historic buildings and sharing that information with others is very rewarding.

Training

Any new volunteer for the gallery or Log Cabin will be trained in all aspects of that facility, and the trainer will be with you until you feel secure in working on your own.  We encourage our volunteers to bring in partners, such as a family member or a friend to spend the day with.  At first it may seem like a lot to remember but eventually you “get it”, and hopefully have an enriching experience while you are at it.

I have been a volunteer at the gallery for a number of years and am still learning, but I do enjoy my time there.

Volunteers – they rock!

What can I say about our volunteers? Well they rock! SMAA has had the best volunteers any organization could ever want. They are all friendly, willing to work, agreeable and just downright nice to work with. SMAA operates with one paid part-time emplyee and many volunteers. We are always looking for others to join us, so if this sounds like you, give us a call and we'll find a place for you.
