Barbara Newton resides in Renton, WA, and has been part of the Sidney Art Gallery since 1994. With a career background as a fashion illustrator working in pen and ink, Barbara discovered the joy of color through colored pencils in 1989. Her first two pieces, created in late 1991, are included in the 1993 Rockport Publishers showcase book, The Best of Colored Pencil. Subsequent work has been published in The Best of Colored Pencil 2, Creative Colored Pencil, and The Artist's Magazine.

Barbara has studied with the "masters" of colored pencil, experimented with various colored pencil techniques, and now teaches a series of colored pencil workshops, "Colored Pencil: The Basics & Beyond."
